As one of North America's largest manufacturers of curtainside trailer systems, Roland Curtains not only makes curtainside systems for a wide variety of different configurations of existing trailers but can also produce a custom-built unit to satisfy your required specifications.

Whether you want a complete curtainside trailer built from the ground up, the installation of an upper curtainside structure system placed onto your existing chassis, or the upper structure in kit form for installation by you or your local service provider, we can do the job like no one else. lexus-curtainside-trailer-graphics.jpg

Double Drop Deck Trailers

While curtains are most commonly installed on flatbed trailers, our flexible manufacturing capabilities allow us to also produce drop deck and double drop deck curtainsiders to meet specific customer needs.

The double drop configuration, sometimes referred to as a "lowboy," is similar to a flatbed except that there are fixed drops at both the front and rear of the trailer. This provides three separate levels, with the middle, longest section being much closer to the ground than is typical with an ordinary flatbed.

One advantage to the double drop deck trailer is that it enables the stable transport of taller loads because the center of gravity is lower. It also makes it possible for certain large machines to be driven right up onto the trailer, although single drop deck trailers are generally more useful for this particular purpose.

Double drop decks are typically between 48'–53' long, with the middle deck commonly about 30' long or less and the front and rear decks each about 8' to 10' long. These are important measurements to consider when constructing the curtainside system so it can be made to precisely fit this three deck configuration.

High But Short Loads

Double drop trailer decks are generally designed to transport tall, heavy but short loads and the decks are typically made from heavy steel for extra strength. Some of the items commonly transported on these types of trailers include:

  • Cars
  • Trucks
  • Construction equipment
  • Forklifts
  • Helicopters
  • Circus equipment
  • Aircraft engines
  • Waste recycling equipment
  • Water purification equipment
  • Military tanks and other tall, heavy machinery

Double drop deck trailers ordinarily have two fixed axles but may also feature an additional "flip up" axle to accommodate extra weight or provide needed balance in certain situations.

Curtainside Solutions

Custom To Your Specifications

Because of the three decks incorporated into this type of trailer configuration, when a curtainside is being designed and engineered, it is required that the curtain consist of three different length sections connected together to form one single unit.

Since Roland Curtains are produced on site at our Arlington, Texas manufacturing plant, our team of design engineers has the capability to produce a curtainsider to meet whatever parameters or specifications you may have.

Privacy

Another important advantage of running a double drop deck trailer with curtainsides is the privacy afforded to the cargo, removing the material from public view. Certain sensitive cargoes such as military armaments, munitions, toxic chemicals, etc., have the possibility of engendering a public outcry if being transported in plain sight. Curtainside trailers prevent this, while allowing said trailer to be brought into a large warehouse to be easily unloaded out of view from prying eyes.
