How Do I Purchase a Curtainside Trailer Conversion Package?

If you're ready to add curtainside conversions to your fleet, you probably already know why you're taking this step: the limited load access of van trailers, the lost time tarping flatbeds, the inflexibility of  “either/or” decisions when it comes to accommodating today's diverse freight. Curtainsides offer a hybrid solution that adjusts to the changing requirements of the daily load, combining the three-side access of a flatbed with the enclosed advantages of a van trailer. Driver time is optimized, backhauling and other revenue opportunities are increased, and a wider variety of freight mix including partial shipments are now viable.

Maybe the best part of a Roland curtainside is that you don't have to wait until your cash flow permits a custom unit, factory-built to your specs from the ground up. An affordable curtainside conversion kit utilizes one of your fleet's existing flatbeds as the platform and installs the upper structure including a rigid roof sheet, retractable side curtains, and swing rear doors. Your flatbed will be back in the fleet ready to generate revenue as a versatile curtainside conversion in just a few days.

So how do I purchase a curtainside trailer conversion package?

Starting The Process

What you might not know about upgrading to a Roland curtainside conversion is just how easy the order and purchase process is. It begins with a conversation—by email or phone, according to your preference—with one of Roland’s Customer Service Agents to clarify your goals as well as gather information about your existing trailer as a starting point for the conversion. (If necessary, the representative can offer third-party sources of pre-owned trailers.)

Choosing Your Options

Getting down to details, we'll want to know the make and year of your flatbed and whether it's all-steel, all-aluminum construction, or  an aluminum / steel combo. The deck configuration also matters as we're able to accommodate straight decks, drop decks, and even a double-drop deck. Available options for curtainside structure such as curtain color, composition of roof sheets, and the rear door type will be presented and the Customer Service Agent will help you sort out the best choice. Other optional features you may want to consider include high-resolution curtain graphics, retractable side ladders, freight restraint systems, aerodynamic add-ons, and more.

Gathering Data

After you've settled on your choices, we'll get back to you with a quote within 24 hours. Once you authorize purchase, we'll need some particulars about your flatbed to fabricate the Curtainside Conversion Package for a custom fit. The simplest way is to bring the trailer in and let the staff at one of our facilities do the measurements and record the necessary data. Another option is to schedule a Roland Customer Service Agent to visit your location—or meet the flatbed at a convenient place on its route. If neither method works for you, we offer a DIY option, including a data worksheet that guides you through the process of taking dimensions and digital photographs, then submitting it to us by email. It's not rocket science and, since most flatbeds have standard dimensions—and we're experienced with the few exceptional cases that require special consideration—the do-it-yourself process is easy if you're handy with a tape measure.

On The Road Again

After all data is received, Roland engineers will design and fabricate your Curtainside Conversion. You'll receive a target date for installation and make arrangements to drop off the flatbed a day or two before. Roland can also pick up the trailer and return it following installation, if required. Just three or four days later, your new Roland Curtainside Conversion is ready to roll.
